Yes, plus not every startup is negatively impacted. Tech companies are doing great right now. What if you have a startup that will radically improve distance learning (something desperately needed at the moment), or be the next new and improved Zoom, or have a way to get groceries to those who need better than the existing methods. Lots of opportunities that could skyrocket in this environment.
I believe much of the difference comes from a unified message. When a country's medical professionals AND it's leaders show leadership and urge caution, people listen.
The US offer combating views with our leader (#Trump) making fun of those who wear masks, claiming they don't help, and "leads by example" by not wearing one. This confuses people and emboldens the slow witted individuals who still believe #COVID19 is no big deal.
Personally, I know of many restaurants and stores that have permanently shuttered due to COVID-19. And even in areas which aren't being locked down, many individuals will be too afraid to patron. So while malls will of course still be around after COVID-19, not all will weather the storm.
There's just so much we don't know and don't understand about COVID-19. Hindsight is 20/20 and more will become clear in the future. For now, any one who claims they know what to do is just guessing. It may be an educated guess, but there's still a lot of conflicting data out there.
While I haven't agreed with much that you have to say on this site, I'd agree with this. But government's need their positive spin and that's all this talk of growth is.
It's not necessarily the case that someone lied in the negotiations. It could be that they were willing to pay higher prices here, for some concession elsewhere. There's much we're not privy to.
