The REITs sound a lot like those mortgage packages that were sold as good investments a few years back. The ones that were poor risks and had a lot of defaults and caused a whole lot of grief? Or is tis somehow different??
Interesting, isn't it, that while the cause of the spread was known and obvious, the fools in charge did not do the one thing that could have stopped the spread, which would have been to close the borders TIGHT immediately. That might involve parking tanks on the runways to stop planes from landing, with ample warning given before they would even plan to take off. It might also require quarantine of a few cruise ships for a while. Certainly it would have had some economic impact, but far less than the total lockdown. that we had instead.
There are ALWAYS going to be drops after the run-ups, because that is the way it works. As the price rises people buy to get in on the profit from the rising prices. The concept being to sell at the peak and make the most profit. But since that peak is unknown, some of the more cautious will sell first. Of course the selling lowers the price, which in turn provokes more folks to sell, which lowers the price, prompting more folks to sell. and on some occasions this constitutes a crash.
Indeed, again. And certainly it is possible to predict the past quite accurately, while the future is a lot harder to get right.
And it IS different this time, A different year and a different month. Same disasters the last fifty disasters, but different dates. So the fools are not totally wrong, except about the important details.
I see things differently. All it takes to start and grow inflation is dumping in money. Wages do not need to rise for inflation to take off. Does anybody actually believe that dumping FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS into the economy will not launch a cycle of inflation that will cause a whole lot of damage ao a whole lot of people? And it will be serious damage that will threaten the stability of society. Things will change, and not one atom of that change will be for the better. When a whole lot of people suddenly become both homeless and hungry they may not listen so politely as they do while they are at home and fed.
No matter what some say, inflation is here and it is reducing the purchasing power of those folks on fixed incomes, which is those not part of the finance elite. So hang on folks, the excitement is just beginning to start. (NOTE that excitement is not at all the same as "fun".)
Interesting indeed. Other comments elsewhere have mentioned that Target is one of Walmart's serious competitors, and that correlates well with the stated analysis. Of course emotions are also getting into the mix and that makes for all of the jaggedy plots instead of smooth curves. Emotions also probably explain some of tose intense crash dives as well.
An interesting discussion as to the effects of emotions on pricing and trading. The tags fear and complacency are interesting alternatives to greed and panic and the stampede syndrome It was not always clear about the meanings of all of the graphs, but that is OK. Plots of the outputs of proprietary algorithms are not always obvious in their meanings, but that is OK.
