The Case for Shorting Apple

Innovate is what #Apple does best. They didn't invent the cell phone nor the MP3 player or anything else. They indentify promising products and then make them better. This is what they do and what they will continue to do. Apple isn't going anywhere! Bullish on $AAPL.

With #iPad sales way down, #Apple has begun to bank on it's #iPhone line as buyers tend to buy new phones with far greater frequency than tablets. But as an investor, I recommend that Apple find the "next big thing" to diversify.

The company first got big with it's ipod... who even has a dedicated mp3 player anymore. If they don't continue to innovate with newer and better products, the company will go extinct.

While I generally love #Apple and its products, I think the fan boys keep $AAPL stock a bit higher than it deserves - that being said, that rabid loyalty can't be discounted and does add value to the company. It means any serious errors will be quickly forgiven and even mediocre products will sell well.

It takes guts to say anything negative about #Apple. $AAPL

Netflix’s Price Increase Signals Original Content Isn’t Enough
Michele Grant 10/9/2017 7:56:41 PM

I think #Netflix users are a bit like #Apple fan boys. They love the product so much, they are blind to any detractions, even when valid and critical to the company's long term health. I think we can all agree, Netflix has a wonderful product with many satisfied users. But the financials don't lie and can't be ignored.

Winner & Losers from Amazon’s Proposed Purchase of Whole Foods
Alexis Renault 6/20/2017 6:42:53 PM

I agree but I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing #Amazon Kiosks in the corner of every #WholeFoods location. A great way to sell their actual devices, similar to mini #Apple Stores. $AMZN $WFM $AAPL

Quiet Life: Interview With Netanel Eyal, CEO & Co-Founder
Linda Willis 3/29/2017 2:32:48 PM

This looks like a cool, innovative product. But tell me @[Netanel Eyal](user:41905), what is to stop companies with a large existing user base, like #Amazon or #Apple from moving in and replicating your accomplishments, by integrating a similar technology into their products? Hat tip to @[Carl Schwartz](user:16874) for pointing this out. $AMZN $AAPL

Apple Is Slowly Blowing Companies Away
Harry Goldstein 2/27/2017 3:29:50 PM

Yes, both Bob and Vintage Vixen have good points. I don't think most people think of #Apple as a phone company, but their revenue does seem overly dependent on their #iPhone sales. Their iPads are built too well to need frequent upgrades so tablet sales have been slowing for a while. No one needs a dedicated mp3 player anymore and they simply haven't found "the next big thing yet." With Steve Jobs gone, who knows if they ever will. $APPL

Apple Is Slowly Blowing Companies Away
Dick Kaplan 2/24/2017 10:02:14 PM

This is where #Apple excels - they identify promising products that aren't realizing its full potential. Then they build a better version of that product. Apple did not invent smart watches, computers, MP3 players, or tablets. They just build better products.

Why Barclays Downgraded Apple
Jason Stewart 1/24/2017 3:36:51 PM

With regards to #Apple's exposure to China, the current administration could also negatively impact this front via a trade war. Some are understandably skeptical of this actually coming to full fruition but judging by rhetoric and promise, the chance of this happening has increased. I'd imagine we'll be hearing sooner rather than later on this subject as it is a major point of contention for the current administration. $AAPL

Ignore All The Hype Around BlackBerry Ltd Stock
Dick Kaplan 1/4/2017 5:17:43 AM

Personally, I don't see the rationale of #Blackberry getting into the self-driving car market. Especially when companies like #Google and #Apple are aggressively pursuing it, I don't see how Blackberry could pull ahead. $BBRY $GOOGL $AAPL

Trump Part IV – The Causes and Uses of An Economic Crisis
Alfred E. Neuman 12/5/2016 4:51:15 AM

If you take the real (inflation adjusted) wages of American blue collar workers from 1947 to their peak in 1972 and project the trend to today and compare that trend line number to what they have failed to gain the wage loss is greater than the lower prices, if any, from free trade. The last time I did that calculation the required wage increase was 80 percent. It varies from month to month but unlikely to change much. I used a least squared fit in a PERL script. Let me know if you get a different number.

To the extent that free trade produces lower prices then those lower prices would tend to push real (inflation adjusted) wages up yet blue collar wages today are below what they were in 1972. The inescapable conclusion from that fact is that combination of price and wages have worked to the disadvantage of American blue collar workers.

Let me also point out that there exists no peer reviewed economic analysis proving free trade produces lower price. Moreover, the lower prices argument assumes that consumer price is directly related to cost. Economic theory says that is wrong. Price is determined by what the market will bear not cost of production. Consider the margins Apple gets. If Foxconn charges them less to assemble them are they really going to reduce price below what the market will give them? The same considerations apply if #Trump requires #Apple to make them here.

Innovative Food: Beaten Down Former Growth Darling Throwing Off Significant Cash
Kurt Benson 11/30/2016 4:47:26 PM

@[Brian Harper](user:32908), thanks for sharing your thoughts on $IVFH. I've been considering this stock but am concerned that 70% of #InnovativeFood's revenue comes from a single company - $USFD.

It reminds me of how $GTAT went bankrupt after $AAPL decided not to use it's screens on the #Apple Watch. Aren't there other competitors which could steal US Food's business from them?

3 Reasons To Buy Apple Inc. Stock Now
Bruce Powers 11/27/2016 7:17:10 PM

What about #Trump's plan to clamp down on companies trying to avoid paying US taxes. #Apple is one of the worst offenders. Couldn't this have a negative impact on $AAPL?

Why I Became A Citizen Of The Dominican Republic
Kurt Benson 9/2/2016 1:56:29 PM

With #Apple, the company operates in America, makes a ton of profit in America, and takes advantage of countless services paid for my the US taxpayer (useable roads, police, firemen, sanitation, etc.). Yet the company is trying to avoid paying any taxes to America. Completely rotten in by book.

In Jeff's case, taxes are a minor component of that. Not to mention he actually lives in the country he's taking citizenship in. So I don't see anything wrong with that.

Personally I think the US is the greatest country in the world and offers unprecedented freedoms (Canada maybe a close 2nd, but I'm not Canadian). For all those who constantly complain, I say if you don't like it, go live in Iran or North Korea and see how much better it is there. But here's someone who actually did leave which takes guts even if you don't agree with it. Well, part of living in a free country is having the right to live where you want.
