After years as a foreign correspondent, I turned to writing and editing books. My latest is "Dancing With Madmen--The Wall Street Novel, " written with Susan Traill. It's a thriller & a tale of ambitious men and women, too, starting with a banker's murder and ending with a financial crash. "The National Debt, " written in the 1980s, foresaw much of what is happening now. I also wrote the definitive story of the greatest counterfeit in history--"Krueger's Men"--translated into eight languages and inspiration of the Oscar-winning film. "The Counterfeiters." I edited the memoirs of Paul Volcker, former chairman of the Fed; Anantoly Dobrynin, former Soviet ambassador to Washington (one of NYTimes ten best books of the year), Markus Wolf, the East German superspy. As a newspaperman, I reported from the UN, London, Washington, New Delhi, Madrid, the European Union and finally, Wall Street--for The Associated Press, Time and the International Herald Tribune.
