Another Eclectic Hire

Readers may recall the rather non-traditional individual appointed by President Biden to handle America’s nuclear waste, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Energy Department’s Office of Nuclear Energy, Sam Brinton.

Secretary Brinton now has a similarly eclectic colleague in the Administration, White House Monkeypox Coordinator Demetre Daskalakis.

Daskalakis Gets An Interesting Defender

One pundit who stepped in to defend the Daskalakis hire was Andrew Sullivan.

What makes Andrew Sullivan an interesting defender of our Monkeypox coordinator is that he was an early and effective advocate for legalizing gay marriage, and one of his arguments for doing so was that it would have a public health benefit, in reducing an epidemic. He seemed to have forgotten that argument earlier this week but was reminded of it on Twitter.

As Steve Sailer and others have pointed out, it wasn’t so much gay marriage but the fear of AIDS that tempered gay promiscuity, and that fear was lessened with government funding of PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis).

Better Living Through Chemistry

Since our leaders are repeating their AIDS tack of not trying to rein in the irresponsible individuals spreading this disease, we’re left with America’s preferred response: pharmaceuticals. On that score, I shared a Monkeypox play with you in a post a couple of months ago.

That play was SIGA Technologies, Inc. (SIGA):

SIGA appeared in our top ten again on Wednesday but didn’t pass our options sentiment screens on Thursday. It might be worth keeping an eye on our top names to see if it appears there again soon with more staying power.

Ridiculous.  This is truly judging a book by its cover.  Did you know Daskalakis also has a medical degree from Harvard.  He's more than qualified for the position.

And with MonkeyPox making dangerous inrounds with the LGBTQ+ community, his close ties to that very community makes him a natural choice.

David Pinsen 1 year ago Author's comment

The natural choice would be to tell gays to throttle back on the orgies until the disease is under control.

Other Americans were told to let their elderly relatives die alone in hospitals and nursing homes to control COVID; avoiding orgies for a while shouldn't be such a big sacrifice for gays to control Monkeypox.

You don't have to be gay to get MonkeyPox. Nor are gays the only ones getting it, or even having orgies.  Is the economy the fault of gays as well?

What exactly was the purpose of this article, other than to try to blame gay people, and say that the Daskalakis is not qualified, based solely on his lifestyle choices.  I'm actually quite shocked and appaled by your publishing of this article.

Bigoted much?

A man that looks like this should have no authority whatsoever.

Why? I'm sure plenty of politicians and people in positions of power have private hobbies, (into S&M, BDSM, or whatever). It doesn't mean they are bad at their job. Trump liked affairs with prostitutes and porn stars. Some say he has a fetish for golden showers. Does that mean we should not vote for Trump?

By your logic, no one could ever get a job if you didn't liike their hobbies or fashion choice, outside of the office. But none of that should matter. And here I thought MAGA types didn't like censorship or cancel culture.  Well guess what, that's exactly what you are doing.

Trump In 2024 1 year ago Member's comment

Censorship of the truth is wrong. Censorship of fake news and behavior that is amoral and wrong are right. And the truth is, whether you like to admit it or not, people like this ruin our country and its moral fabric.  When Trump wins for a 3rd time, he'll see to it that these people are put in their place.

You should read more by Timothy Naegele on this site. He and David Pinsen seem to have the right idea about purifying this country.

Why is it that MAGA nuts always talk like they are from the Nazi party?  What does such hateful rhetoric accomplish?

This seems like a rather bigoted post. I don't know much about Daskalakis, but I do know we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. So he has some wild tattoos. The question is, is he good at his job? I don't know. If not, then the criticism is fair. But you never made any mention of his capabilities, just his looks. But he can look equally professional as well, and does in his official capacity:

If he wore a MAGA hat, punching a police officer at the January 6th insurrection, they wouldn't care.  But since the man is gay, he MUST be bad at his job. What homophobes.
