Visa: Excellent Company, But The Stock Is Not A Buy Now
4 years ago

Here we are getting actual advice that is quite specific. That in itself is quite interesting. Certainly it makes sense. But it looks like those who have invested a while back should HOLD because of the dividends and the likely future. Probably they already know that, though.

Thanks for the educational article.

Vegas Stocks Are On Their Way Out And Here’s Why
4 years ago

Certainly the gaming, gambling, and associated entertainment industry is impacted by this pandemic plague, and profits are suffering and may continue to suffer for a long time. And some things may change "forever", since tastes in entertainment do change. So we have a warning that this is not a ripe area for profitable investments.

Thanks for the educational explanations and cautions.

The Bank Of Canada Is Aggressively Expanding Its Quantitative Easing
4 years ago

Purchasing government debt is certainly one way to aid and abet the rise of government spending, It is also a source of income as long as the government is able to keep up interest payments, and it would not seem to be any source of difficulty unless there becomes a sudden demand on the bank for cash due to a lack of confidence, or the need of people to use their savings. Then there will be a need to sell that government debt and it may arise that there are none willing o buy it.

The big problem with the bank acquiring that debt is that it encourages government spending, which we have seen here in the US seems to have no limits and no consideration of the long term effects.

Video Game Sales Surge In August: 4 Solid Stocks

Certainly it is interesting that producers of video games are doing so well, and that the earnings are good. It makes sense that with more time on their hands gamers will play more.

I did not realize the size of the gaming industry.

Thanks for the education.

Who Owns U.S. Stocks?

Yes, I own a few stocks, but no, I do not manage them. I have a financial manager who does that. The reason for owning the stocks is that they provide a better rate of return than having them in a savings account. So I am not wanting to push for the maximum possible gain, I have more important things to do.

But thanks for some interesting information.

The GBP Against A Second Lockdown - Is It All Doom And Gloom?

It seems that the financial group that whose activities brought about the recession in GB evidently have not finished with making random changes in hopes of somehow producing a recovery. Exiting the EU may not provide the desired recovery either, and if not, then what?

The cyclical nature of economies is usually cause by the same sort of things that tend to reduce the stability of all feedback systems. And certainly economies are a feedback system, rather intended or not. Mechanical feedback systems, as used in machinery, are subject to the unchanging laws of physics, and so the requirements for stability can be learned. The "Laws" relative to operation of the financial system and the economy are probably just as unchangeable but much less clear. Or is it that they are much less acknowledged by those folks making the changes?

China’s Hole Puzzle

Really, yes, it is more than a bit disturbing with the question bringing up several more questions. But first we need to understand that China is still a police state, and the communist government is still a totalitarian entity. (not to be judgemental about it.)

Also keep in mind the cultural propensity for saving face.

Thus it may be that "the numbers" do not relate to reality in the standard manner that the rest of us would presume.

It could even be that the actual conditions are far less happy than what is presented, and that Superman is presently indisposed and will not be arriving to save us.

It could be that there IS "a Bad Moon Rising", with everything listed in that song being real this time. Hoping NOT!!!

Cannabis Central: Pure-Play Pot Stock Portfolio Performance Flat Again On Monday
4 years ago

A bit of good news after a period of slight declines. Welcome news indeed. But also, flat performance for a while is only a big deal for day traders and the terminally impatient. Those folks who are in for the longer term and for the dividends are not in a huff. And for additional reasurance just look at almost any graph of performance and observe that there are very seldom any smoothly rising curves. That is just not the way the market works.

This article is both interesting and educational and in addition a reminder that buying apple stock years ago would have been a very smart move.
