The United Nations has some crazy rules, but i was unaware until today that the 15-member Security Council changes leadership "monthly", using the English alphabet to rotate leadership over a fifteen-month scheme. This month Russia is leading the Security Council. What a way to run an organization.
The United Nations needs an update, not because Russia is in charge of the Security Council this month, but because it is ineffective and inefficient.
Already, Russia has held sessions this month to cast its abductions of Ukrainian children as a protective measure and accuse Western countries of being irresponsible on arms control by sending weapons to Kyiv.
Russia — one of the five permanent, veto-wielding members of the Security Council — last held the council presidency in February 2022, the month it launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Much of the above i learned from reading an article in Politico, but i have always known that five countries (United States, Russia, China, United Kingdom, and France) had special veto power. What a scheme. That would be like giving veto power in the United States to the President, the Speaker of the House, the Minority leader of the House, and the Senate Minority and Majority leaders (Biden, McCarthy, Jeffries, Shumer, and McConnell). Good luck getting anything done with that kind of scheme.

The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Sudan is comprised of 28 Agencies, Funds and Programmes, Missions and Offices. UN Humanitarian Agencies, Programmes and Funds work with national and international partners to protect the lives and fundamental wellbeing of civilians affected by conflict and natural disasters. (This was drawn from the U.N.'s website pertaining to Sudan, which displays a picture of two smiling young adults peaking through two colorful toroid-shaped rings before you get to the narrative.)
The U.N. is better than nothing, but not much better than nothing. The U.N. does some very good things; however, it is generally ineffective--more a forum for expressing diverse opinions than solving diverse disagreements.
If you want "world peace" and you want to stop "war" (e.g., Russia-Ukraine, Sudan), then we need to replace the U.N. with a new World Federation with a completely new Constitution and a new set of rules.
As described in a book called Globanomics.

Now don't be surprised, but . . .
Yesterday, nine young people were injured after gunfire erupted at a teenagers' party in Jasper County, Texas. The shooting early on Sunday took place at a private residence where some 250 Jasper High School students had gathered after their annual prom dance. The victims, who have not been publicly named, ranged in age from 15 to 19. All are recovering from their wounds at two local hospitals.
Now that is a prom night to remember forever. Remember the Alamo, Texas--and keep packing those guns to protect your households.
I couldn't agree more. The system is broken. But offering veto power was likely the only way they could get the super powers to join in the first place.
