I can understand France being a bit upset about losing a multi-billion dollar contract, but i think they can come to understand what is going on here, and it us who makes certain decisions in lieu of them. I like France and its people. But they do have to recognize who is protecting them from all future foreign intervention like that which they went through in the early 1940s.
I see there is a meeting planned for next month between Biden and Macron, which is good, but all these little spats only generate noise that we could do without as globanomics is implemented.
Biden to Macron: "Don't worry about it, Mac. We'll make sure that you are properly compensated. In fact, that is something you won't have to "ever" worry about."
The question is, was this a business decision, or a political one? If the latter, it may not be fair, but life ain't fair.
This was a decision that told China that Australia would have a U.S. built submarine rather than a French one. Having served on a U.S. nuclear submarine myself, i think there is probably a big difference between the two, both in capabilities and in stealth.
It's the U.S. telling China that we are going to be the one looking after our Allies.
