God Bless the U.S.A.

Date: Saturday, August 13, 2022 10:23 AM EST

This morning rather than watching MSNBC and/or CNN for the latest news, i decided that i would turn on Fox and Friends to see what they were saying.  I did so at 6:00 a.m. this morning.

The first thing i saw was a video with a lot of people wrapping themselves with the American Flag as Lee Greenwood sang The Star Bangled Banner in the background.  Now i really do not have a big problem with Lee Greenwood; however, i am getting tired of seeing people wrapping themselves in the American flag, all the while calling themselves "true patriots", when they are anything else than that.  Remember the people on January 6th using the American flag to beat their way into Congress?

About a month before the last election an old friend of mine mass mailed to a bunch of us, Lee Greenwood's video God Bless the USA.  I called him out on it, complaining that his message was a form of political endorsement of Trump (which in fact it was).  Oh, but no, my friend said--he just thought that we all should get along better than we were.  Really?  I am for that, but don't use "false patriotism" in doing so, I told my old republican friend.

The flag doesn't make you a patriot.  Singing God Bless the USA does not make you a patriot.  Dressing in the red, white, and blue does not make you a patriot.  Hugging the American flag does not make you a patriot.  Driving around my neighborhood with an American flag flying in the back of your pickup truck does not make you a patriot.  And last of all, gullibly following and slobbering over Donald J. Trump (bone spurs and all) does not make you a patriot.

If those were the requirements for being a patriotic American only 40% of our population would even qualify for being a patriot.  But that is what 40% of our American public thinks.  God bless the other 60%, who don't have to wave the flag or hide behind it for cover to be patriotic.

Anyway, I diverge.  After listening to Lee Greenwood, i continued to watch Fox.  The first thing i learned was the Government of the United States had gone off the rails this past week.  Barging into a former President's homes with guns a blazing, the Government had violated everything the United States stood for the last 250-years.  Fox told me that none of the documents seized by the Goverment were classified.  Fox news told me that Donald Trump had already de-classified everything (even our nuclear secrets).  Fox news said Donald Trump would have handed everything over to the Government if only he had been asked (ignoring the fact that he had been asked).  Donald Trump told them so.

Fox news told me that our country was starting to act like a "banana republic."   A "banana republic?" i asked myself.  How do you describe January 6, 2021, the day that was supposed to certify a new President-elect?  .

And with that i could take no more, i turned back to what i consider to be more reliable sources for my patriotic information.

Now i am sure there are some who might read my blog that are "true believers" (i.e., true believers in Donald J.Trump).  Let me offer my regrets if i offend your type of patriotism in any way with my writings.  But as a veteran, a true-blue patriot of our country, and someone who knows just a little about the United States--its military might (including nuclear might), its economic and financial strength, and the general goodness of most of its people--i cannot sit back quietly while a sociopath (def: someone who has difficulty engaging appropriately with social norms) continuously tries to tear our country apart.

It's past time for Donald J. Trump to get a free ticket to prison.

Now with that said.  God Bless the U.S.A.!

Fox lives in an alternate reality.  But I've noticed that since January 6th, there are at least a lot more comments negative of Trump than there used to be.  But most of them still thing he is Jesus returned.

Free speech needs to be protected, but a major news outlet should act responsibly.  I personally do not think Fox acts responsibly.  In fact, outside of Trump himself, Fox news is a big reason this country is as divided as it is.  I think law suits are the only way to protect us from outlandish falsehoods that some of the Fox characters keep putting out there.

I agree. Right now they are being incredibly irreponsible. They are trying to discredit the FBI and scare Americans into thinking they FBI us corrupt, and is going after their hero illegally.  Theats against law enforcement have skyrocketed and Ricky Shiffer already attacked an FBI headquarters in response.  He was killed as a result.

His blood and the rest that follow are on Trump's and Fox's hands.

#Trump doesn't care who dies in his desperate attempts to cling to power. The very definition of a tyrant.
