The best play might actually be to just have a "certain number of republicans" not show up to vote.
You all, may be way ahead of me, but this just a new interesting problem for me to figure out. And in that process, i goes step by step--kind of like a chess game (thus game theory, which i know nothing about other than a general sense).
But anyway, i could see a very good reason for the republican majority to go with the democrats rather than there somewhat small and somewhat "evil" minority.
Yes, it would be shocking, but in all honesty, it would be the best thing for the country at this time.
Let's get back to a level of respectful civility. We are lucky to have had many of the leaders that got us to this position of world leadership. Let's be one country who gains this degree of leadership--show some "fucking love" in the process.
p.s. We are damn lucky we have Joe Biden running the show now. It's also nice to know Obama, Bush, and Clinton are friendly consultants. The "loud, but weak minority of the majority" should never gain control.
That simply goes against mathematical logic.
I can't see a scenario where the Republicans would support a democrat to be Speaker. That would not be tolerated by the rest of the party. But rather than try to make some concessions to the 20 fringe candidates that are holding the party hostage, maybe McCarthy should make some concessions towards the democrats to get a enough of their votes to secure the position. Giving any more power to the extremists in the GOP is a dangerous step in the wrong direction.
I have no sympathy for McCarthy. By kowtowing to Trump and supporting his hand picked nut jobs who ran for office, McCarthy created the very situation that is now his undoing.
Enough people in the middle (both Dems and Republicans) might have supported Liz Cheney to be speaker. It doesnn't have to be an elected official. It could have been Trump - but only Matt Gaetz voted for him.
It was a mistake for McCarthy to keep running. All he did was give way to much power to the extremists in the GOP.
Cheney could have likely won over quite a few Dems, but it would have been political suicide for any Republican to vote for her. The GOP now hates her, and anyone who supported her would go on Trump's hit list.
