Good read, but you lost me on the whole structured/unstructured data concept. When I want to find an item on #eBay, I do a search for that item. Why would I care who the seller is, or where he lives, or what letter his last name starts with? What am I missing?
Lakshmi, you sound very paranoid. I don't believe the government is out to steal our money. If you've seen my tax returns, you know they are already getting it all anyway. It may not happen this generation, but a cashless society is inevitable. And as long as that money is FDIC insured, it will be as safe as my money in the bank (which isn't physically sitting there either).
#Amazon started out as a book seller only. It's growth exploded once the company diversified. Why doesn't B&N do that also? Additionally, I believe I heard that Amazon is going to open brick and mortar stores, won't that be a major threat to B&N? $BKS$AMZN
I suspect many of these people are getting the bulk of their income 'under the table' and/or intentionally not seeking higher salaries to avoid losing their government benefits (#ObamaPhones, #welfare, #foodstamps, etc.).
That may be true for people taking the traditional route, but some startup entrepreneurs seem to get away with a lot. Like Zuckerberg wearing the same hoodie day in an day out. Had I shown up to an interview like that, I'd be shown the door.

Who is suggesting banning cash? Rogoff suggested only banning high denomination bills. What's wrong with that?
