While I haven't agreed with much that you have to say on this site, I'd agree with this. But government's need their positive spin and that's all this talk of growth is.
It's not necessarily the case that someone lied in the negotiations. It could be that they were willing to pay higher prices here, for some concession elsewhere. There's much we're not privy to.
I think there will still be lots of surprises. It is such an unprecedented time, and there is still so much we don't know about COVID-19. Throw in the volatility of the Black Lives movement, the protests, the riots, the calls to defund the police, the move to create autonomous zones like CHOP, not to mention the unpredictability of Trump himself... who knows what will happen.
People do need to pivot and adapt. It would be foolish as a new graduate, to apply for a job in an industry that has laid off millions. You will be competing with countless others with far more experience who are desperate for work. Yet, being a recent graduate, you are far more able to apply for an entry level position in one of the industries are growing.
It really depends on the industry/sector. Some will fare better than others. Tech is a great field to be in now as many tech companies are experiencing record growth as many users are forced to utilized technologies in ways they never did before. Others like the travel industry will take years to recover.
