When Someone Asks, 'Should I Own Bitcoin?'
Boaz Berkowitz 12/20/2017 2:44:27 PM

Excellent read. I especially enjoyed some of the expert opinions that were provided at the end of the article.

I had almost invested in #bitcoin when it was selling at only $300 but decided it against it for several of the reasons that @[Richard Shaw](user:5170) covered here. While I of course now regret not having purchased it then, this article certainly reinforces many of the overall concerns I still have with #crypyocurrencies in general. $BITCOMP.

I hadn't realized there were 10 other crytocurrencies, nor that they were all based on the same open source code. Do they have any advantages over #bitcoin?

This is a very interesting article on #bitcoin. While very wary of #cryptocurrencies myself, I had assumed that Bitcoin, or at least digital currencies in general were the way of the future. I had no idea of the technical limitations of bitcoin or of its inability to be scalable. This is a whole new facet that should be carefully considered before investing. $BITCOMP

#Bitcoin is the classic bubble story of my generation, the generation before had the internet bubble. I look forward to shorting it when the time comes and I hope it comes soon.

You didn't come off as argumentative at all. Personally I've warned all my friends away from #Bitcoin (and now I have to feel their wrath). But I stil say it's too unstable. Governments could ban it, hackers could steal it, a new "in" digital currency could surplant it, there are so many variables. And it's not like the FDIC will bail out anyone who loses their bitcoins. If it's gone, it's gone. Remember people, this is not a tangible object.

You make a fair point. I can't use #Bitcoin everywhere yet, but at the pace it's going, more and more stores will accept it. And you are right, I would not consider a subway token a currency, though I admit I had no idea you could purchase anything with it other than a subway ride - that was before my time! You are older than you look (joking).

I keep insisting that #Bitcoin is a dangerous fad. But the valuation increases keep saying I'm wrong. But I still say it's one hack away from all coming crashing down. No FDIC insurance to bail out those affected.

I have been completely dumbfounded by #Bitcoin's meteoric rise. $BITCOMP.

I'd rather have the good ol' dollar or even #gold than a #bitcoin. But I'd rather have a bitcoin over the currency of some of the more unstable regimes in the world.

"I don’t expect that #cryptocurrency in any of its current forms will survive because they don’t offer anything particularly useful compared to traditional money."

@[Michael Ashton](user:12172), great article and I agree with everything you said, though you forgot one point with your quote above. #Cryptocurrencies like #bitcoin do offer one extremely useful benefit over traditional money. It's untraceable. Criminals and those who wish to hide their activities will pump millions into crypto currencies for this very reason alone. $BITCOMP

I've been thinking the same thing. I almost bought #Bitcoin at $300 but thought it was a bubble and would disappear like most fads after the first big hack. I still feel that way but wish I had bought.

#Bitcoin looks like a bubble to me. I may miss out on a lot of upside, but I have no regrets about not opening a Coinbase account and chasing this higher.

Thank you @[Nathan Feifel](user:56139). While I find #bitcoin and #cryptocurrencies intriguing, I've always found them somewhat confusing. Thanks for clarifying for us older folk.

I still can't believe #bitcoin is trading at over $8000! I thought about buying at $300 but was sure it was a fad. $Bitcomp

Extremely interesting analysis of the the cryptocurrency market that looks past the typical short term price differences. Personally I believe that bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are bubbles but that the blockchain that powers them is revolutionary. I also believe that bitcoin will surge in value as CME unveils futures and options which will lead to bitcoin ETF's. These thing will for the first time allow investors to buy bitcoin easily through trusted brokers, leading to surging demand and eventually a bigger collapse. #bitcoin #blockchain #altcoins
