Like I said it was just a fun nugget that I found online about a crazy low price for a bond that is not in default, it was not a serious study about bonds for building wealth. But since you asked, if the Austrian century bond could still be bought at $0.0265 and held to maturity in 2117, Copilot said the compounded return would be 9.36%.

This answer will stink but I don't know other than wait? Kids grown by the time they're 50? Maybe? Smart enough to take a 15 year mortgage? Maybe. In that scenario this couple is 50, hopefully making more than at 30 and can start putting away for retirement. Of course in this entire conversation we never mentioned saving for kids' college.

The Green essay was posted this past week so Green thinks $140k makes sense. If someone has money leftover to save and money leftover to have fun then I don't think they are living in poverty. My example in the post probably captures working poor not impoverished. My thoughts are to focus on reducing expenses which can be done in some cases to be sure but not all cases. I don't know how the example I built in this post would cut expenses.

I use a good bit of short dated individual issues and several alts in small slices to diversify any sort of idiosyncratic risk that might be unique to a specific exposure like cat bonds or some sort of market neutral long short strategy.
