Monetary Update For The Dollar

The US economy is not that strong given it is being supported with devalued US dollars. If that devaluation stops then so too will this brief economic blip of a rise. I don't agree however, that a economic downturn will make the US dollar fall. In a downturn, money becomes scarce and cash becomes king even if it is paying next to nothing thanks to the Federal Reserve's ridiculousness in this cycle.

As for crypto currencies, despite the over 100 versions of them their market cap is not large enough to really make an impact for now. It is worth watching though. Technology is always adapting.

One-Day Wonder Or The New Trend?

It has been too long since a major cyclical move. Cyclical moves help balance the market and by its nature shift money around so other high risers don't get extraordinarily overvalued compared to the rest of the market. This is a good thing, although one day doesn't make a major technical shift. It seems more like a brief worry over valuations in the tech sector if rates increase or inflation rises more than anything else.

Higher Wages: Good For You, Not Good For Stocks

My main concern is if you loose your password, it gets hacked or changed, or your account gets taken by government action you loose a lot of money. It has happened to many people and will happen to many more. It is far from a passive investment. It will get safer and easier, but not in its current form.

Why Tech Investors Love The SaaS Business Model
8 years ago

Indeed like cloud companies many investors get stuck on the keywords and don't realize what is and is not cloud orSaaS and thus fail to recognize its advantages and whether or not a company has such a model. Cloud plays are not companies that employ solutions that can not be scales without significant capital outlays. Although a company dealing with the cloud may be a datacenter. A datacenter is not a cloud play.

Likewise a SaaS play is not just a software company, but a company that can sell its solutions as a subscription and requires limited servicing. Also, arguably a SaaS solution is not one that requires high customization and nor one that can not be rolled out to a decently large market. Oracle is not a cloud solution. Strangely, Salesforce is a cloud solution but is becoming so large and complex that in many ways it is starting to seem less and less like a cloud solution. Just try to hire a Salesforce consultant. We will see how it progresses from here on out. A cloud solution can go from cloud to not really being a cloud solution just like the reverse can happen.

Actually it will cause rotation into areas that grow from increased spending and that can raise prices with inflation. It also may aid the beaten down commodities market. The rest of the stock market will hurt as mentioned in this article, especially the service sector.

Is USA Low Capacity Utilization Low Enough To Prevent Recession?

QE is a command economy tool as is extreme manipulation of interest rates not used for countering downturns. Of course, business is still private. It is business that suffers from the loss of free market signalling when the Federal Engages in such tools.

How Much Does A Tax Cut Cost?

I agree, government spending should be curtailed. This is the only way decreases in taxation will ever be sustainable.

As for tax breaks, everyone knows they should be applied without bias so that the tables for the free market are not tipped. The problem is that almost no one in Washington cares about the free market compared to their election and the money gained by giving specific corporations tax breaks no one else can get.

Dallas Fed Manufacturing Outlook: Expansion Slow But Solid In November

This plus housing is looking good for the next year although it is a bit worrisome if the dollar falls further or inflation becomes apparent. We will see if there is any real policy to justify increased exuberance by next year.

The Fed Minutes — Another ‘irrational Exuberance’ Moment

I would tend to agree since I don't see anything coming in the 6 month horizon, not to say that some unexpected event will not happen out of left field. That said, the Federal Reserve has so messed up economic indicators I think businesses are having a hard time planning for the future despite the fact a downturn isn't on the immediate horizon.
