As a retired businessman with a passion for drawing, who has lived on four continents, I long ago started to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us - the enormous variety of colours, flora, fauna and topography and the impact that has had on cultures and peoples. Most of us view that beauty without really seeing it and for thousands of years artists have tried to capture it and thus, teach us the art of seeing. My email address is jbhanshaw@gmail. com

Manufacturing Jobs Are Overrated
I spent my entire life in manufacturing and got involved with robotics and computer controlled machines in the late 1970s. Those early developments led to different jobs rather than job losses except for the unskilled. Today the category of manufacturing of capital goods needs to be changed to something else because connected services now add more than 50% to the revenues - and much more to the profits - of many of today’s machinery manufacturers.
Trump focussed on commodity products - steel and aluminium. He should focus on fixing the education system that remains stuck in the 1970s and is not “manufacturing” anywhere near the number of scientists, technologists and engineers that those services need
Amazon Mortgage Lending: Good Idea? Why? What's Next?
I think Amazon will one day implode. It is becoming just another conglomerate and we can see where they have gone.
Has The Oil Correction Started?
Interesting article but demand needs to be factored in as well. That is increasing. I had my own views published on SA a while ago and I have not changed them. I was wrong about prices - they exceeded my guess and I doubt they will go much lower from here. seekingalpha.com/.../4114905-black-gold-political-vs-practical

It Was A Swiss Move
Interesting article. If you are right the SNB has not been helping my Swiss equity investments - they are down with the rest. Incidentally Switzerland has more world leading companies per capita that any other country in the world and that despite the ever appreciating - over decades - currency and much of their business is done outside the country because it is so small. Fascinating country that is also my home.
Thanks Ireland: The Amicable Divorce
Interesting article. I remain curious to see how the Irish border issue will work out. One day the word equivalence with EU rules was used and when that did not suit it was changed to alignment. Playing with words is one thing the EU and UK are good at - making things work properly they certainly are not.
