The price of gold seems to be directly related to the lack of confidence in the economy.

One caution not to be overlooked is the integrity, or lack of it, of the issuers of those mortgage issuing organizations. There are problems when a share is based on loans that then default, and that happened a lot just a few years back. And since I am not aware of any new rules demanding improved integrity for those mortgage sellers, I see no reason to assume that such securities are any more secure than last time. AND, consider that even those securities backed by better quality loans may suffer defaults if the economy stumbles a bit farther.

As always, broad coverage that seems to be detailed enough. Like a good news announcement, but not an announcement of only good news.

"Transitory" is a carefully chosen word stating the condition of being in transit, meaning "changing, not permanent". So what we have is a newly added weasel word to the vocabulary of obfuscations. And we have no hint that the changing period will be short term, although that is the intended implication. So what is actually being said is that "the inflation will go on for some time, and eventually it might end." I do not find that claim to be very reassuring at all.

One more time I need to repeat the fact that making a profit on trading requires selling those shares. Holding shares to profit by value growth is great but usually does not produce rapid profits. And the challenge of selling shares is that a buyer is required, When a share price has obviously peaked, at least for some short term, finding those who want to buy high and sell low is difficult.

It has long been clear that the interests of the federal reserve banks do not favor the common folks who are not stockholders, nor do they favor any who may or will be harmed by inflation.

"The notion of significant slack in the EU’s economy creates a strong contrast to the bullishness and confidence of the Federal Reserve in the U.S. economy."

It does not make the attitude "OK" either. A lack of income increase for the top 10% of the population would not harm anybody living within their means, either. There is more to that "American Dream" than constantly boosting the wealth of the already wealthy.

I am not sure if it could be called inflation, because it was rather local, but during my early youth in the mid 1950s, I recall my mother complaining that every time the UAW announced winning another wage increase, prices in the grocery store would increase the next day. So it was a zero-sum victory for the auto workers and an incremental loss for the non-auto workers.

Seasonal Patterns In Shares – Why Do Investors “Sell In May And Go Away”?

Given the apparent affects that emotions tend to have on a lot of the market, it seems that the optimism of spring would tend to boost share prices which would in turn to encourage profit taking, which normally involves selling. So the saying could be based on past performances. Clearly it would not apply universally, but that is not required for traditions.

Certainly some are doing very well. Hooray for them, no doubt. The unfortunate thing isthat there is not enough prosperity to go around and thus there are others who see far less sunshine.

Reality is seldom "fair" and that is just how it is.
