I went from being a huge fan of $BABA to having serious doubts. But this is an interesting investment. I'll have to let it percolate a bit. I'm still not sure if this is a wise investment on their parts, though I suppose they have money to spare.
I found Apple's response disingenuous. If they wanted to help, they could. They said their fear is that once they create a backdoor, others could find it. Chances are, there already is a backdoor. But even if not, they could create one, and then do an iOs update to patch the security flaw. They do it all the time, why would this be any different?
Hindsight is 20/20. The problem is you can't know if something will go up or down before it does. If we did, we'd all be rich! Couldn't the price of precious metals just as easily go down?
Excellent post on $NFLX that gives me much to think about. I agree with much of what you said but I think there are some emotional factors that you left out which should not be negated.
1. I think on average, Netflix customers are fiercely loyal compared to other companies.
2. Netflix has a great product which they keep improving upon. Netflix is actually more reliable than my cable provider.
3. Netflix has the first movers advantage. Even $AMZN hasn't made much of a dent and they are giving away their video on demand service free to their millions of prime customers. I get Amazon instant video free, yet I still prefer Netflix.
