From a nostalgic aspect, I couldn't care less. But I do see tremendous danger in the elimination of competition. Before you know it, there will only be #Walmart and #Amazon left. Anyone who wants to buy or sell a product will need to do so through them.
#Walmart's acquisition of #Jet was supposed to position the company as a viable competitor to #Amazon. But I've yet to see any technical innovation as a result. Can we still expect to see any benefits? Or was it just a waste of money? $WMT$AMZN
I think it depends on whether you are talking about physical stores or online. Sure #Walmart has been taking an increasingly larger bite from grocery sales while it is still too early to tell if the #Amazon acquisition of Whole Foods will have a meaningful impact on it's marketshare.
But when it comes to online shopping, Amazon is becoming increasingly distruptive. It wasn't long ago that I started doing about 25% of my shopping online direct from the supermarkets' websites (usually as a result of a coupon being sent my way). But lately, I'd say about 75% of my grocery shopping comes straight from Amazon. Either direct or through Amazon Fresh. Prices are pretty good (especially when paired with their frequent coupons, shipping times are super fast, quality is excellent, and the customer service can't be beat.
Not just persevere, but excel and obliterate the competition. Don't forget that many said #Netflix's days were finished when #Walmart, #Blockbuster and others tried to compete with them. Which of those other companies are still standing? Only one! $NFLX
While I know #Walmart ($WMT) and #Amazon ($AMZN) treat its suppliers and employees poorly, I also know that means greater savings for me, so I'm okay with it. No one is forced to sell to, or work for, these companies. And no one is forced to shop there. I see no issues all around.
#Walmart is horrible to both its suppliers and its employees. But are #Amazon and other companies really that much better? With the exception of a standout like Wegmans, any company that wields that much clout is going to use it. $WMT$AMZN
Shopping at #Walmart is a miserable experience. #Amazon excels at customer service. If they increase efficency at #WholeFoods, they can likely do less with more, while still keeping customer service a priority. $WMT, $AMZN$WFM
#Walmart acquired #Jet to compete with #Amazon. Now Amazon wants to acquire #WholeFoods to compete with Walmart. I don't think Walmart's acquisition did a think for them. Hopefully Amazon's will work out better for them $WMT$AMZN$WFM
Personally, I hope this acquisition is the end of #Walmart. Shopping there is a dreadful experience and they don't deserve to stay in business. Yes, prices are cheap but there is zero customer service, horrible wait times, etc. #Amazon could radically change all that doing what they do best. $WMT$AMZN
#Amazon's acquisition of #WholeFoods could revolutionize the industry. I don't think it will be the end of #Walmart though unless Amazon starts selling actual products in the the physical stores like Walmart does. And I don't think the Whole Foods locations are physically large enough. $AMZN$WMT$WFM
The downside is that these big stores like $WMT will go out of business unless they raise prices which help the consumer. It should help the dollar, but it will take time. When that does happen though, #Walmart will get more bang for their buck so it could even out. But it's a big change and there are likely a lot of unforeseen issues which could arise.
It is a tough time for department stores. I just don't see how they can compete with #Amazon and others like it. Not to mention, if #Trump can push through his new tax plan, it will kill stores especially, #Walmart and #Target. $AMZN$WMT$TGT

@[Don Dion](user:18204), you are wise to be cautious. You right that it will take time for #Walmart to see any benefit. Plus, as I just said on @[Leigh Drogen](user:5239)'s similar article here: www.talkmarkets.com/.../will-jetcom-save-walmart-from-amazons-fury, Jet is no Amazon!
