When Is the Best Time to Buy a New Home?

While everyone knows that you should take current home prices into consideration, there are a few other things you should consider as well. In this blog, you can find out when the best time to buy a new home is, and if that is indeed the best time for you.

Buying a home is one of the largest purchases of most people's lives, and you want to get it right the first time. This means you want to do careful research, determine exactly how much you can afford to spend and exactly when the best time to buy your new home might be.

While everyone knows that you should take current home prices into consideration, there are a few other things you should consider as well. In this blog, you can find out when the best time to buy a new home is, and if that is indeed the best time for you.

On Easter Sunday

Believe it or not, Easter Sunday is said to be the second-best day of the year to find a new home. Whether you're purchasing real estate in Montecito or property in South Carolina, this is said to be the day you want to find and sign those papers. Think about it, there's no competition out there on Easter Sunday, because who is going to be out looking for a home instead of celebrating with their family? Easter falls somewhere between March 22 and April 25, so if you are in the market for a new property at that time, consider Easter Sunday to be the best day to find it, and get your bid accepted.

On Christmas Day

Christmas day, statistically speaking is said to be the best day to buy a home. The reason is that no one is out looking for homes on this one day of the year. There are way fewer people out looking to purchase a home in the month of December than in any other month of the year. This is a time reserved for buying presents and spending time with family. Honestly, most people can't afford to buy a home on Christmas Day. Moving during the holiday season can be rough, but it's worth it if you want to get the home of your dreams without having to worry about someone outbidding you.

It is important to have a Realtor that is willing to work on these holidays and have the nerve to push her way into a client's home on these days as well. However, there are many sellers out there who are eager enough to sell that they will be happy to have you come look at the house no matter what time of the year it might be.

Worst Day to Buy a Home

Now, that you know what the best times are to buy a home, it's important to know about the worst day to buy a home as well. This is widely reported to be the last Friday in May. Since most people want to buy their home in the spring, you're suddenly overwhelmed with people signing their paperwork to finalize the purchase of their home at the end of May. The last Friday in May is a killer for Realtors everywhere and could end up being a burden for you as well.

The time of year that you buy your home is certainly up to you, but these are the days when you can get the best deals and deal with the least competition. Generally, prices on homes go up significantly during the summer months, as many people are out looking and the market is great.

Do your research to determine which is the best day in the area you choose to live in, and soon you'll be in the home of your dreams, glad you did the research and probably just a little bit richer because of it.
