Few things in life can disrupt your day-to-day matters like a weak cell connection. Regardless if you’re having a conversation with your friends or loves, a coworker, or are closing a major deal for your business, poor cell phone reception risks disconnecting at any point in your call.

This isn’t a risk you’re willing to take, but what if your home simply does not get good bars? Some areas, by nature, get worse connection than others. Obviously, you’re not going to purchase a new home simply to get better mobile connectivity. Here are some little steps you can take to improve your phone signal at home and ensure that your next call is stable through and through.

1. Take Your Calls Upstairs

If you live in a house with a basement, you’ll be tempted to go down there to take your calls. It’s quiet, secluded, and you won’t worry about noisy kids running around you while you’re trying to close an important deal. However, consider the fact that mobile connection isn’t magic and can’t easily traverse through walls.

So, instead of taking your calls in the basement, find another secluded area that’s upstairs. You can take your calls in the bedroom, where you can create a make-shift office for yourself. Or if your neighborhood is quiet enough, you can even take them outside. Ensure that even when you’re upstairs, you’re using the phone inside a room with windows, so that the signal waves have a threshold to travel through.

2. Contact Your Provider

A lot of problems can be solved by contacting your mobile service provider. Sure, it’s not always the most pleasant customer service interaction you can have as mobile service providers tend to keep their customers on hold for quite a long time. However, getting through to them once could yield some great results.

For example, you might learn that your current mobile provider does not have any signal towers close to your area and that could be the cause of your weak connection. If that’s the case, your best bet would be to switch to a provider that does have a signal tower in your area, to strengthen your connection. Or perhaps they do have a signal tower in your area but it is not working as intended, so speaking with the service provider you could ask them to send a technician to the tower and see what’s wrong.

So, yes, as unpleasant as it is to stay on hold for 20 minutes, a single call can make a difference.

3. Mobile Phone Booster

But if you don’t want to constantly change your place every time you want to make a call or if you’re really not getting along with your service provider, consider investing in a mobile phone booster. These are excellent devices for anyone looking to stabilize their cell phone connection all around the house.

The device is made up of three parts: a receiver, amplifier, and signal disperser. The receiver collects the poor connection from the outside, as it is generally installed on the external walls of your home. The connection is then boosted by the amplifier, which sends it to a dish inside your home which disperses the signal throughout any given area.

This way, you can talk on your phone from any room, including the basement. So, no having to relocate every time you receive an important business call and everyone gets equal coverage around the house. You can even choose how much of your home you wish to cover with the booster, as different types come with a different radius of coverage.

Save yourself the headache and invest in one if nothing else has worked so far.
