As the world's biggest sport, it is no surprise that a lot of other industries want to capitalize off football and use the number of eyes that are on the sport to make their business more money. One of the biggest industries in the world is betting, it makes billions a year and since the start of football domination, betting has been there hand in hand.

Football betting is the biggest sports betting sector in the world and earns the most money for the betting industry when it comes to sports. No matter what other sports try to do, none can have the connection that football and betting do.

How They Link Together

The connection between football and betting is the reason for this post today and we haven't just plucked this idea out of nowhere. With betting sponsors and betting as a whole, these two are connected more than you may know.

Betting

With football being as big as it is, football betting is a no-brainer for a lot of fans as they watch the games anyway, and having a range of markets like Premier League betting odds as a whole, or specific player markets like goals or bookings, makes fans feel more connected to the sport which a lot of people love.

When fans watch the game for ninety minutes, they have a lot of things that they can bet on, and not much will get you as invested in a game as betting on it too.

Why Do People Bet On Football?

We have touched on one of the reasons for the popularity of betting in football. But, it goes even deeper, other than the thrill of betting on football, there is the convenience of the betting which adds to why football betting is so popular.

Online sports betting is massively popular and the amount of online betting sites that offer football markets is astonishing, being able to play from home or even in the stadium, is a part of the success.

There is also a social aspect that comes into play when you think of betting, being at the game, or watching the game with friends, and betting with other people makes football betting an incredibly fun and unmatched experience.

Winning money is obviously the point of gambling and due to the amount of markets in football betting, there is an even bigger potential of winning a good amount of money while watching your team win too!

Sponsorships

When we mention the connection between these two things, it doesn't just start and end with fans and the actual betting side of it. Business-wise, betting and football have been in collaboration for decades.

In the Premier League this season, eleven out of the twenty teams are sponsored by betting companies. This shows how connected the two things are and a lot of the Premier League teams are making a lot of money per year by being sponsored by these companies.

How This Will Change

In the 2026/27 season, the Premier League are stopping betting companies from being the main sponsor of their teams. They will allow teams to have sleeve sponsors of betting companies, but, as the main sponsor it will no longer be allowed.

Although a lot of the teams have betting sponsors, this won't have as big of an impact as it may seem on the surface. Most of the money that teams out of the European places make is from the TV rights that they get. So, teams losing betting sponsors won't lose these teams as much money as some fans may think.

The Future Of Football And Betting

Despite the sponsorships being put to an end by the Premier League, we will always see betting and football have a connection and year by year, we are seeing the football betting industry grow. This will continue to happen and football betting will continue to be the biggest and most connected sport in the betting industry.
