Growing Your Business
You took the risk and left your 9-to-5 job to venture out on your own. Now your dream of opening a fitness studio is a reality. However, there's a lot more involved than you originally planned. It happens to many new business owners. The good news is that there are many ways to improve your chances of achieving success.
Budget
As a new business owner, your goal is to stay afloat through the first two critical years. Having a budget in place and the funds secured and set aside is essential. Mapping out all your estimated costs and rounding up the numbers will give you a little wiggle room and margin of error on your proposed expenses.
Marketing
One of the best ways to grow your business is through a successful marketing campaign. Thankfully, there are many ways to achieve this. You can place an ad on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to attract attention to your website and send emails to people in a localized area to make them aware of your new business. Another way to drum up business with very little out-of-pocket expense is to buy a blank t shirt (or more) and screenprint your company name, logo and phone number on the back. Then you can sell them at the studio. When clients wear them around town while jogging or at the local parks it will provide free advertising.
Delegate Duties
Let's face it; your focus is on bringing in the money. Spending hours on things like taxes, budgets, invoicing and ordering supplies, takes precious time away from increasing sales. A great way to avoid spreading yourself too thin is to have a few professional people you can count on to handle these tasks for you. You can, of course, follow up on their progress. It's best, however, to let them perform these duties so that you can focus on making money.
Customer Service
You're a new business owner, and that territory comes with positives and negatives. On the plus side, you don't have any bad reviews. However, on the negative side, nobody knows your policies. Thankfully, you can take advantage of your new status and have it work for you. From the moment you open the gates, you should have a business policy in place and posted on your website. It's also important to listen to your customers and their concerns. One way to tell them silently that they have a voice is to have a suggestion box in the front.
Customer Loyalty
One of the hardest parts of owning a business is maintaining customers. Any business can attract new customers, but keeping them is much harder, especially in a competitive market. One of the ways that many established companies maintain a healthy client base is to go beyond their competitors. For instance, having a loyalty program where if a customer takes so many classes or refers a client to your business they receive, say, a free month at the gym or a free t-shirt. In a nutshell, your customers want to know that you value them, and a great way to return the favor for their loyalty is to offer them something as a token of your appreciation.
Get Involved
Some businesses in your community stand out, and there's a reason for that, they are active in the community. If you want people to remain loyal and gain name recognition, you should show a presence in the local area. You can sponsor a school team, host a clam-bake or pitch a tent at the local fair. Any one of these is taking a step in the right direction towards the end game of growing your business.
You did the impossible and opened a fitness studio. The good news is that you can make it a success and spend the rest of your working years doing something that you truly enjoy.
