Ever since vaping became popular in 2011, the industry has undergone a multitude of big changes. For starters, the number of vapers worldwide has increased from just 7 million eleven years ago to more than 70 million in 2022. Together with many popularity surges, it has also been met with a fair amount of resistance and criticism. Although it is very difficult to predict exactly how the industry will perform, various predictions have been shared in the media. From the increased popularity of nicotine salts and the WHO having another go at vaping to app integration becoming more prominent, here’s a closer look at what is predicted for the vaping industry in 2023.
Nicotine Salts Enjoy a Popularity Surge
Over the past two years, disposable vapes have skyrocketed in popularity. Flavored vape juice in particular has been gaining mainstream popularity for decades now. One of the driving forces behind this surge in popularity can be attributed to the various benefits of nicotine salts. Using nicotine salts allows for a much higher nicotine concentration than regular vape juice. It is also conducive to an overall more pleasant vaping experience as it offers a smooth taste and a throat hit that isn’t nearly as harsh compared to the same level of freebase nicotine.
The WHO will Take Another Shot at Vaping
There have been numerous predictions that the World Health Organization (WHO) will use the Framework on Tobacco Control (FTC) to try and strictly regulate or completely prohibit vaping at the 2023 Conference of the Party (COP). The COP has been on the receiving end of a considerable amount of criticism for being undemocratic, secretive, and abusing hand-picked organizations to further their personal agendas. These tighter restrictions are further predicted to lead to what is known as ‘unintended, perverse consequences’. According to Jim McDonald from Vaping 360, these regulations can potentially lead to a bigger global grey market for illegal devices and accessories.
App Integration Becomes More Prominent
One of the biggest industry trends from 2022 is promising to continue well into 2023 and beyond. Vapes have become increasing high-tech in recent times with some of the latest models sporting exceedingly cutting-edge features. Thanks to technology such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, vapes can be connected to a handy smartphone app that allows users to access vital information. This includes vape intake, charge level, special offers, and even peer reviews. Some manufacturers, such as Vaffle, are even going as far as to develop software that function as ‘social networks’ for vapers, providing them with a platform for social interaction and networking.
2023 is promising to be a year of great growth for the vape industry. Although there are a number of obstacles that will undoubtedly present itself, the industry is predicted to bounce back from any setbacks with relative ease.
