Barbara Stokes Huntsville AL Inspired to Give Back Over $100,000 of Supplies to Habitat for Humanity

When Barbara Stokes Huntsville AL and her husband founded their company in 2008, one of their key focuses was to always have a philanthropic component. The company is Green Structure Homes (GSH) of Alabama, and the company has a unique purpose that is nearly philanthropic in itself. GSH of Alabama works to provide disaster relief after any type of catastrophe comes through a specific area of Alabama. GSH specifically works in the realm of housing. After an incident occurs, GSH of Alabama will send a full team to the community that was affected and provides home design and helps to rebuild the homes of the families that were affected. Alabama’s unique location makes it prone to a higher volume of catastrophic events than many other states throughout the country. 

Madison County, Alabama has a high volume of people who need basic housing. Due to GSH of Alabama’s unique work with rebuilding after a catastrophe, Barbara Stokes Huntsville AL saw how her business aligned with the work that Habitat for Humanities does. Both GSH and Habitat for Humanity work to provide housing to people who are in the most urgent need. While GSH of Alabama provides housing after catastrophic events affect people, Habitat for Humanity does a similar building of homes for people who have found themselves in socioeconomic catastrophes that also leave them without proper housing. 

GSH of Alabama’s $100,000 Donation to Habitat for Humanity

Barbara Stokes has long been a proponent of the work that Habitat for Humanity does in the Huntsville, AL community. When she saw the particular needs of Madison County, Alabama, she realized her company needed to step in and help. The realization of that need led Barbara Stokes to lead the charge for GSH of Alabama to donate $100,000 of supplies to Habitat for Humanity of Madison County. The county has a high level of housing issues driven by a particularly high poverty level. The $100,000 donation was comprised of the funding for more than 1,000 sheets of drywall and less than 80,000 square feet of high-quality linoleum flooring supplies. These donations will all go directly to building homes in Madison County by Habitat for Humanity. 

To date, Habitat for Humanity of Madison County and the local community have come together to help end the issue of lack of housing by building over 200 homes. The donation from GSH of Alabama will go directly to building eight homes within a single year. This is incredible for Madison County, an area where more than 40% of residents make less than $50,000 a year, with half their income going directly to maintaining housing, most of that housing being sub-par at best due to the lack of quality homes within Madison Country. Barbara Stokes says that so happy her company was able to make this donation, and she is so proud of the incredible work that Habitat for Humanity does for communities like Madison County that have such a great need for quality housing.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit that is known for being extremely hands-on with the work that it does, and it is also known for the grassroots level of what it accomplishes in the communities the non-profit works in.
