I too say good riddance to the Taxi system! But they have a strong lobbying group, I don't know if 5 years is enough time to see an end to this system. And there definitely needs to be more regulation to the Uber/Lyft model. the increased regulation will increase the cost.

Instead, taxis should create their own app to make it easier for cabbies and riders find each other and compete that way.
