Who says it is okay? It's not okay, it's just that people are too angry to care. In a week or two most of those people will be infected with COVID-19. The number of people getting admitted to hospitals for COVID have doubled in the last couple of days.
Even George Floyd was infected - but most people show no symptoms.
Wait a minute, you think the pandemic was good for the retail industry? #Macy's ($M) can close non-profitable stores when there's no pandemic going on.
Why is the answer to get rid of the minimum wage rather than to raise the minimum wage. The minimum wage is to protect workers from being taken advantage of. In an economy like this, people might be willing to work for a few dollars per day. That's practically slavery. It used to be like that here and still is in some 3rd world countries.
Elon Musk? Really? Don't get me wrong, while I think Musk is a visionary, he's far from an infectious disease specialist. All he cares about is the bottom line.
I've actually been very turned off that he would flaunt the law and safety of his workers by ignoring the order to remain closed. Clearly he's not fighting for their right to work and earn a wage since he threatened to fire them all, and move the plant to Texas instead if he didn't get his way. He cares nothing about his own workers' livelihood, nor their safety and is willing to risk their lives for profit. Disgraceful.
"On our present course, lower skilled workers may justifiably expect a decade or more of jobless despair." A DECADE? What is that based on? That sounds quite extreme to me.
@[DRM](user:130312), I understand that protecting freedom is important. But so are lives. I wonder... would you feel any differently if you or your loved ones were considered high risk? Not trying to be argumentative, just curious.
