The NFL is full of a number of the world’s most valuable sports teams, with a recent report from Forbes in 2021 revealing that three of the franchises playing in the league were ranked inside the top 10.
Indeed, it perhaps does not come as a surprise to learn that there are a number of American football teams that feature in the list, whilst many others also follow those in regards to the amount of wealth that they are believed to be valued at.
The sport is one of the nation’s most popular activities, whilst it is also one that has continued to attract more appeal in other corners of the world, including Canada and Europe where the game has continued to be played and watched in growing numbers.
Who, though, are the most valuable franchises in the NFL currently? We have taken a look at the top 10 within the league for this list in a little detail, although that is not to say that the other remaining 22 teams are not valuable, either. For instance, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs do not appear on the list amongst the most valuable NFL teams at the moment despite the fact that they are two franchises who are amongst the favorites to win the Super Bowl this season given the odds that are available to punters who decide to participate in online football betting in Virginia.
#1 - Dallas Cowboys
Despite the fact that the Dallas Cowboys are yet to make a Super Bowl appearance in the last 25 years, that does not appear to have had an impact on the value of the franchise. Additionally, anyone who has been taking an interest in the value of NFL franchises will already know that this spot was always destined for the team owned by Jerry Jones, as it has been ranked as the most valuable for the last 15 years.
Known as “America’s Team”, the Cowboys are reported to be able to generate around $800 million in revenue each year and have an overall value of an estimated $6.5 billion. That’s a nice profit if Jones ever decides to sell up given he paid $140 million for them in 1989.
#2 - New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are ranked as the second most valuable franchise within the NFL, as they are estimated to be worth around $5 billion, which is some way off of the valuation that the Cowboys have.
However, the Patriots have been incredibly successful over the years with the tandem of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick leading the organization to a total of six Super Bowl wins since the 2000s. Indeed, that will have helped the team owned by billionaire Robert Kraft to continue to increase their value.
Despite the fact that Brady is no longer with the organization, the 2021 season has been far from a bust and many are actually tipping the Patriots to have plenty of success with a rookie quarterback in Mac Jones. Some would argue that the Belichick touch that helped Brady so much is rubbing off on the first-year star already.
#3 - New York Giants
Given that the New York Giants have not had a winning season since 2016 and just two since their 2011 Super Bowl success, many would suggest that the franchise should not be considered the third-most valuable in the NFL.
However, much of the estimated $4.85 billion valuation will be down to the history that the storied franchise has, as it is arguably one of the most famous sports teams in the entire world. Indeed, the organization has managed to win a total of eight NFL Championships which includes four Super Bowls.
Owned by John Mara and Steve Tisch, the franchise was initially bought by Tim Mara in 1925 for $500.
#4 - Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams might have been a team that has had a few difficult locations in which it called home over the years, however the move back to California and Los Angeles appears to have paid off as it has seen the organization be ranked inside the top five.
The team, which is owned by Stanley Kroenke, is estimated to be worth around $4.8 billion, and the team’s recent performances in the NFL, as well as the addition of SoFi Stadium will likely have had a huge role in boosting their value over the years.
#5 - Washington Football Team
The Washington Football Team rounds off the top five most valuable NFL franchises and makes it three of four teams from the NFC East. With that said, though, the Philadelphia Eagles are also ranked within the top 10, thus highlighting how valuable the division is.
The team, which has undergone a number of changes in recent years has been transformed on the field in that time, as well and have become serious contenders within the division, although many football fans will argue that it is one of, if not, the worst within the entire league at the moment.
