Gold (XAUUSD) is showing signs of stabilization as markets await key US employment data and further geopolitical developments. Stronger US economic data and expectations for higher interest rates continue to limit the upside, while safe-haven demand provides underlying support. Upcoming economic reports and geopolitical developments are expected to provide the next major catalyst for gold.

Gold Holds Firm as Markets Brace for Key US Employment Data

Gold is attempting to stabilize after the recent decline as market participants wait for fresh economic signals from the United States. Attention turns to the US JOLTS Job Openings Survey, which begins a busy week for labor market data. Friday’s Nonfarm Payrolls report remains the key event and could shape expectations for future monetary policy.

Geopolitical developments also remain in focus. President Donald Trump said the United States is engaged in discussions with Iran. He said this represents Tehran's final opportunity to reach an agreement after months of conflict. Iran rejected those comments and stated that no negotiations are currently taking place. Markets also continue to watch any progress toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz, as further developments could influence safe-haven demand for gold.

Meanwhile, stronger US economic data continues to support the US Dollar. The ISM Manufacturing PMI rose to 55.6 in July from 53.3 in June, marking its strongest reading since May 2022 and exceeding market expectations. Markets also continue to price in a 65% probability of a September interest rate increase, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. These expectations continue to limit gold's upside because higher interest rates increase the appeal of interest-bearing assets.

Gold Price Analysis: XAU/USD Holds Critical Support within Long-Term Wedge

The gold chart below shows price trading within a long-term ascending broadening wedge that has guided the broader trend for several years. Gold advanced steadily within this structure before accelerating to fresh record highs earlier this year. Price has since pulled back while continuing to trade within the long-term wedge.

The recent correction has brought gold back toward the lower trendline of the broadening wedge. Price is now trading near this key technical area, where the lower trendline continues to define the long-term structure. This trendline has acted as dynamic support throughout the broader advance, making it a critical area to monitor over the coming weeks.

As long as gold continues to hold above the lower boundary of the ascending broadening wedge, the broader technical structure remains intact despite the ongoing correction. A sustained move above the recent consolidation zone could improve the technical picture and support another advance within the existing structure. However, a decisive break below the lower trendline would weaken the current long-term setup and increase the risk of a deeper correction.

Gold Outlook: US Employment Data May Decide the Next Move

Gold remains steady as markets await key US employment data and further geopolitical developments. Expectations for higher interest rates and stronger US economic data continue to weigh on gold, while safe-haven demand limits the downside. At the same time, gold continues to hold within its broader long-term structure despite the current correction. Upcoming economic reports and geopolitical developments are likely to provide the next major catalyst for price action.
