Tom Szafko (Shafko) has served corporate clients as an in-house counsel since 2005. The focus of his career remains on commercial transactions, however, his responsibilities expanded progressively and continuously throughout his career.
Tom's expertise is based on dual legal education - a law degree from Poland as well as Juris Doctor Degree from the United States. He applies objectivity, sound judgment, and negotiation skills to successfully close transactions, disputes, and business challenges. Tom leads teams and collaborates with other subject matter experts to devise and execute strategies and solutions that result in repeat business and calculated risk-taking.
Tom is also well-versed in other aspects of in-house counsel responsibilities such as corporate governance, due diligence in M&A transactions, employment relationships, visa and immigration matters, as well as data protection and privacy concerns including Gramm Leach Bliley Act and GDPR.
His professional interests include business transactions, technology, cyber resilience, corporate governance, along human rights and employment law. Prior to joining his current employer, Tom worked with corporate clients including Capco a Wipro Company, T-Mobile, Alcatel-Lucent, Berliner Communications, and Unitek Global Services, and completed internships with the New York Division of Human Rights, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
