I serve our firm's three unique business verticles in a leadership capacity and am involved in nearly all aspects of the functional areas of our business, including, but not limited to, management, operations, investments, legal, compliance, IT, private funds, marketing, and business development. I serve as the primary point of contact for our brokerage custodians, TAMPs, IT providers, compliance counsel and important service providers.
Two memorable experiences in my role thus far at EWM/ETFMS and Global Alts have been the team effort and cooperation to launch our Endowment Index® calculated by Nasdaq® and our first private fund, a co-investment with a major Wall Street private equity firm. The Index is likely to leave a lasting mark and be utilized long after I retire, and what we learned in our initial fund launch has led to the inception of Global Alts, our private fund management firm.
In serving our clients, our firm, and my colleagues, I draw from a lifelong passion and experience in financial services. A few examples: I would accompany my enthusiastic stock broker father on evening client visits as a toddler. As an adolescent, I attended annual stockholders meetings with him as well, I obtained my Series 7 brokerage license prior to taking my first college finance course, In college, I interned in the home office of a Chicago-based NYSE brokerage firm, gaining exposure to stock and bond trading, operations, and compliance. My active involvement in my college finance club led to bringing the late William O'Neil to my college as a speaker that drew over 500 people to hear him speak about his CANSLIM investment method. Not long after college, I went to work for Bill.
I have learned that helping people with their personal and professional financial goals has always been and always will be a relationship business. My core values include integrity, dedication, and a strong work ethic. Despite its global reach and powerful players, the investment world is smaller than you might think. Be nice and assist colleagues or peers when you can do so because someday your paths may cross again, and they may be in a position to return the favor. Lastly, this a difficult business, and while dealing with money and investments is serious, bringing a little levity to a tense situation brings everyone together and makes the effort all that much more enjoyable. My biggest "influencers": My Dad, Dr. Kyle Mattson, Bill Machgan, William J. O Neil, Peter Lynch.
