Through my now 4X award-winning book, UPROOTED: Family Trauma, Unknown Origins and the Secretive History of Artificial Insemination, (Amazon best seller at its 2022 release), I've repositioned myself as a donor-conceived rights advocate, seeking regulatory oversight on the multi-billion $ assisted reproductive technology industry. Gamete distribution reigns free to conceive dozens, even hundreds, of unknowing siblings from the same donor, with no requirement for genetic testing, no disclosure of genetic health history, no sibling registry, and no penalties for blatant fertility fraud. Breeding puppies enjoys greater supervision. My earlier book, ALL HANDS ON DECK: Navigating Your Team Through Crises, Getting Your Organization Unstuck, and Emerging Victorious, was published by Career Press in 2015 and achieved Amazon best seller in 3 countries. I formed consulting platform Kedgeway to write, speak, teach & direct my philanthropy (former Chairman of NFTE) after 30+ years as a high tech CEO, consultant, director and VC, resulting in ~$5B of incremental value. EY twice recognized me in its Entrepreneur of the Year competition I retired from Safeguard Scientifics after ~8 years as CEO, where I assembled a terrific team to reposition the near-death NYSE-listed venture capital holding company post Internet bubble. With top tier returns, net cash achieved a 60 year historical record, SFE stock hit a post-bubble high; volume increased 6X; covering analysts grew from 1 to 7; and SFE way outperformed the Russell 2000 and the S&P 500. It was a good run. Previously, I was an Operating Partner with global private equity leader, Advent Int'l, and a CEO for several high tech companies (public, private, IPO) in various stages of growth, maturity, trouble and renewal (5X Inc. 500, 3X Fast 50. 2X Software 100, 2X Fortune 1000). Earlier, I held Fortune 500 executive assignments. My two dozen director's experiences, including a few in seismic shift, ranged from $10MM to $1B on public and private technology, health care, financial and non-profit boards as chairman, independent director, committee head and/or CEO coach. I earned an "Adversity MBA" on a full scholarship, courtesy of Uncle Sam. Throughout my business career, I've used the many lessons of leadership through adversity that I took away from a life-altering 15 month combat experience as a Special Operations Infantry Officer.
