I’m driven by two primary goals:
• Creativity-driven outperformance – The asset management industry is suffering from an alpha drought that’s really a creativity drought. As an innovator, I continuously explore previously unmeasured sources of alpha and avoid crowded approaches.
• Keeping my clients invested – Nobody seems to actually earn passive returns. Instead, constant tweaking or abandoning course altogether, prevents long-term compounding. I strive to build resilient products that support optimal investor behavior.
I founded Two Centuries Investments in 2018 to further these goals. We provide investment solutions to a range of clients including family offices, financial advisors, corporations, and HNW individuals.
I didn’t set out to be a quantitative portfolio manager. However, a chance meeting led to an internship at AIG where I discovered that building financial models could blend my analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and creative thinking. Throughout my career I’ve outperformed benchmarks and peers, overseeing multiple billions of dollars in assets.
During my time helping teach investment courses at Wharton, I analyzed two centuries of investment information, culminating in a series of papers including, “Two Centuries of Value and Momentum.” I concluded that traditional investment approaches such as factor investing floundered as innovation stagnated.
Even during the moments where I’ve questioned my career path, I’ve not been able to turn off fresh research ideas. I believe that this is the role in which I can be my most creative and impactful, both in terms of helping create wealth for investors and in influencing the industry itself.
I am also a published author and a frequent speaker. My work has been quoted by leading media organizations and academics, and I am in the top 10% of authors in SSRN. I regularly share my investment insights on the Two Centuries blog -- please sign-up at https://www.twocenturies.com to hear more.
