• 1969 – 1977 First Investment Annuity Company – Started as assistant to the Vice President of
Sales and promoted to Vice President of Sales in 1974.
• March 1977 – August 2000 President of PLANCO – Started as two man operation and grew to the largest independent wholesale distributor of financial service products in North America (Approximately 14 billion in sales). Specialized in investment products offered by insurance companies such as Annuities, Mutual Funds and Life Insurance products. Clients included Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, Paine Webber, Citibank, First Union, and Bank of America.
• Sold PLANCO to The Hartford in 1998 and continued as President through 2000.
• August 2000 to January 1, 2005 – Hartford Life Sr. Vice President and Director of Business Development.
• Established Pacer Financial, Inc., as Hedge Fund development & financial products distribution company and currently serves as President and CEO. See current biography for Pacer Financial Inc. below:
o Joe Thomson [founder of Pacer Financial] co-founded PLANCO in 1977, which grew to be one of the largest independent wholesale distributors of financial products in North America. PLANCO brought in billions of dollars in annual sales of annuities, mutual funds, and insurance during Joe's tenure. In 2009, Joe was inducted into the Insured Retirement Institute's Hall of Fame for his contributions to the industry.
o In 1998, PLANCO became so successful it was acquired by one of its largest partners,
Hartford Life Insurance Company. He continued as President of PLANCO through August 2001.
o Joe founded Pacer Financial in 2005 to address the issues facing today's investors by offering
low cost, tax efficient solutions.
