I understand where you are coming from but I think you are being too harsh. The US foreign policy is more nuanced than that. Sure they sometimes prop up ruthless foreign governments to protect their own interests, but other times they do the opposite - like turning a blind eye to Iran's nuclear ambitions since they don't want a fight.
