Nonsense. $80 oil would drive the biggest surge in renewables the planet has ever seen. And when the world goes solar, it won't go back to fossil fuels.
An insightful analysis. A possible "happy ending" outcome is automation so advanced that it fills most human needs at essentially zero cost, i.e. robotic "slaves" that do the work.
Will it end badly? Yes, sadly. Captains of industry used to become wealthy as a consequence of empire building that delivered real standard of living improvements to everyone. Edison, Carnegie, Ford, etc. Today, respect comes from the simple accumulation of wealth, not great achievements for nation, culture or economy. The fix would be easy and popular, but the rot runs deep among the ruling caste....we may need another 1929 to shake thing up. Hope I'm wrong....
