Gary L. French has over 30 years’ experience in investment management servicing and operations. Currently, he serves as an independent director for the JPMorgan Exchange-Traded Fund Trust and as a mutual fund consultant. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for The China Fund, Inc., a closed-end mutual fund, and as independent director for the Exchange Traded Concepts Trust. He has also served as either Treasurer or President of several different fund groups, including Fidelity Investments, the UAM Funds, the Scudder Funds, and Select Sector SPDRs, among others.
Until December 2010, Gary was Senior Vice President in the Mutual Fund Administration group at State Street Corporation. In that role, he was responsible for Client Operations groups which provided fund administration services for over 115 client relationships with more than 2,500 funds and assets under administration in excess of $3 trillion. Prior to joining State Street Bank in November, 2002, Gary was Managing Director in charge of Deutsche Bank’s U.S. Fund Operations unit. Deutsche Bank acquired Zurich Scudder Investments, which Gary had joined in April, 2001, to lead the reorganization and integration of mutual fund, institutional separate account and high-net-worth investment operations functions. He served as President of UAM Fund Services and two other wholly-owned subsidiaries of United Asset Management (acquired by Old Mutual in 2000) from 1995 to 2001. Old Mutual Asset Managers owned a number of affiliated investment advisory firms which had approximately $187 billion in assets under management at the time they were acquired from United Asset Management. From 1990 to 1995, Gary was with Fidelity Investments where he served as Senior Vice President in charge of Fund Accounting and later, as Treasurer of the Fidelity Group of mutual funds.
Gary also has served with several industry associations such as the AICPA Investment Companies Committee, Investment Company Institute Accounting and Treasurers Committee and NICSA.
