C. Michael Carty is an investment expert with 40 years of professional experience in portfolio management, investment research, and quantitative methods. Michael has worked on numerous projects evaluating different securities structures, asset classes, investment strategies and capital markets. He has held senior positions with major financial institutions and advisory businesses and currently serves as a consultant and expert witness. Michael’s financial industry focus includes but is not limited to managing SMAs, pension plans, mutual funds, ETPs, CEFs, and long/short market neutral strategies. Other industry expertise includes portfolio construction, risk management, performance measurement and evaluation. He provides consulting and expert witness services on behalf of individuals, institutions, research boutiques, attorneys, and accountants. Michael developed numerous strategies for passive equity products (index and smart beta funds) for licensing as ETFs; and active growth, growth & income, and value SMAs. He also developed methods for assessing investors’ risk tolerances to build portfolios most likely meet their financial goals. Michael’s media exposure includes nearly 200 guest appearances on cable and network television, 1,000 on radio, and numerous interviews in newspapers and magazines. In addition, he created a diversified optimized ETF portfolio carried real-time on CNNfn’s website and reported its monthly performance on the Money Gang. He also authored over 30 articles in financial publications on wealth management topics and presented original research at over 40 conferences. Michael’s educational background includes a B.S.I.E. from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and M.B.A from Columbia University where he also pursued doctoral studies in Investment Sciences and Econometrics.
