Agree it is not a necessity, but anyone who has ever accidentally dropped their phone in the pool of water would like this feature. There are other times when I put it in a ziplock to protect it (e.g. when paddling a kayak or riding a bike when it might rain) when that would not be necessary. A ziplock is no big deal, but it is an annoyance if you need to get at your phone for some reason.
