While my career began as a market maker on the floor of the American Stock Exchange (now known as NYSE American), the epitome of a transactional pursuit, I was able to shift my focus towards using capital markets to help clients create positive change when I founded Stakeholders Capital, Inc. (“Stakeholders Capital”) in 2008. With our HQ in Amherst, MA, Stakeholders Capital is dedicated to socially responsible investing, as this approach to investing considers environmental, social, and governance factors, now dubbed ESG. I have since totally immersed myself in the evolving and rapidly growing movement. I use the phrase "Stakeholder Capitalism" to illustrate our recommended shift from placing shareholder returns above risk considerations, essentially seeing investments through a longer lens. I firmly believe that these metrics help to create portfolios aligned with ESG investing and that they, in turn, help to address some of society's greatest challenges. As a testament to ESG investing moving mainstream, Perigon Wealth Management, LLC (“Perigon”), an RIA with $5.8 billion in AUM, acquired Stakeholders Capital in 2023. With the resources of this larger firm behind me, I believe I am better able to serve my clients while also supporting other Perigon investment advisors in their quest to incorporate ESG into their practices. I am privileged to be part of the Solution Economy. Deloitte writes that “a Solution Economy exists where traditional sectors overlap, where bottom lines are measured in social value, and where inventive, imaginative new business models create public value.” I look forward to the day when all investing takes into consideration the long-term big picture, and it is no longer necessary to use the phrase "socially responsible investing," and when phrases such as “Stakeholder Capitalism” are simply the norm called "Capitalism". $5.8B AUM is as of June 30th, 2023, as reported on Perigon’s Form ADV.
