Modi’s Demonetization Is A Cure Worse Than The Disease
7 years ago

I don't think Modi will ruin the Indian economy but I emphasize government's reluctance to not consider non- banked citizens dilemma. But Modi's policies are too ambitious which may lead to policy paralysis like the previous Singh government which tried to execute multiple ambitious agenda's at the same time. I don't think there is much of a difference between Singh and Modi

One needs to know that less than 10% of the black money is in form of cash and the rest is in form of different assets and bank accounts. How would the government target the rest of the unaccounted black money? Also this has set a precedent where government can go against the public good or take action without considering the execution or the time factor. Hopefully the government will answer its long-term solution to the problem.

People still appreciate the move because people themselves don't know how to fight corruption. It almost looks like a media campaign or a TV show where people are fighting for good but when you turn the TV on everything is the same. Replacing the old #rupee #currency with new one's won't cure the policy problems or stop corrupt people producing black money.

It is true that there is already a market existing that helps convert black money to white money. Due to the demonetization the market to convert the currency has skyrocketed sometimes reached 50%.

Sensex Finishes Weak; Tata Steel Down 2.6%

#TataSteel acquisition of Brahmani River Pellets Ltd comes after ex-chairman Rata Tata again taking over the Tata empire. This move symbolizes the chairman's agenda to aggressively capture the steel market in times of recession or stagnation. In future, we would see multiple similar acquisitions in the market where large firms taking advantage of Chinese stagnation of steel market to increase their foothold on the domestic markets or in simple words expand market share and control the cost that would make them more competitive.

The same thing with Pharmaceutical companies such as #SunPharma. Sun Pharma is doing its part of Indian companies taking on foreign acquisitions and having a foothold in American market and gain insight into American markets. Similar Indian companies have taken over such acquisitions in different sectors such as Adani, Tata, Mahindra, etc. The long-term goal is to make Indian market open to foreign investment and open the doors for Indian companies in International markets that would make BSE and NSE interconnected with International markets. $TTM

Are India ETFs In For A Rough 2017 Thanks To Modi?

It is true that #ETF's will suffer a short-term loss due to uncertainty in the market. Investors and ETF would be able to get a clear insight on ETF's after the union budget. Also one would be able to speculate what would be government's long-term monetary policy and can expect the policy to stay consistent as present government can be expected to come to power next term. Similarly, government will introduce policies to benefit ETF's.

India ETFs Tangled Between Note Demonetization & Trump Win

Both India and USA having taken important decisions on the same day can be speculated towards both countries working together in the future converging their strategic and economic interests. It is true that #demonetization efforts will have huge impact on domestic ran business especially cash driven. One of many sectors that would be affected is the agricultural sector which accounts at least 60% towards Indian economy. For example: Kadi, known as cotton city or Manchester of India, saw closure of cash or spot cotton markets due to the inconvenience created by the government. The markets were shut for at least a month which resulted in local economy slowing down and resulting in lakhs of loss for every individual small businesses. Kadi is just one of thousands of town in India that are cash driven and especially Rs 500 and Rs 1000. However, India runs a parallel economy of unaccounted money as majority of its citizens have income below minimum slab to pay income tax. Therefore the real impact of demonetization won't be seen on paper but on the field where small business would close down and big companies (domestic and international) would take control of agricultural sector putting burden on the farmers. However it won't much effect on the financial markets as most of the companies on the market are not cash driven. #rupee

Cash Crisis In India Hitting Gold Sales Hard
7 years ago

After Indian Prime Minister Narendra #Modi banned Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes after Diwali the #gold prices have sky-rocketed in the cash market. Due to government's fear, gold jewelry shops are not selling or buying gold to customers. One of many ways corrupted shop owners would cover the black money is they would show gold reserves being bought or rented to unaccounted owners and convert black money to accounted money. Despite the efforts there are places that help convert unaccounted money with new currency. If one is trying to buy or sell gold one has to be ready to see short term speculation which might drive the price up or down. It will take about 2-3 months for the country to stabilze so would the gold markets.
