I have been in the pension business dealing with qualified plans and ERISA for most of my career – over 35 years. The vast majority of my professional time is devoted to helping TPAs and assisting firms that partner with TPAs. I live in the US Virgin Islands, but I usually return to the mainland 20 – 30 times per year. When I am not working, I enjoy golf (mediocre), fishing (very good) and reading (compulsive). I was the sole founder of the Technical Answer Group, Inc. “TAG” (tagdata.com) which is now owned by Wolters Kluwer. When I owned TAG, the vast majority of retirement plan TPAs subscribed to our service. Currently I provide customers with a dramatically different perspective. The unique perspective is attributable in part from living in the Virgin Islands (relieved of the day-to-day noise that seems common in the industry) and being old (an insurance company executive recently told me that one thing he appreciated was that it seemed that I was the only person he knew that was not afraid to tell him he was full of sh*t). I’ve sold 401(k)s, I’ve been a TPA, I’ve served TPAs and I’ve run businesses where I had to make payroll…I get it.
