How do these companies compare to the other dividend picks you wrote about recently? I am looking for some more resilient recession proof options? Of the ones in your article here and the ones below, which are your favorites? UVV, PLOW, CALM, PM, GES, RCII, NTRI, SDLP and SAFT. Of these, I think like SAFT the best because insurance is probably one of the safest long term investments, just ask the Swiss!
Things are looking quite buoyant for AerCap with the stock above all 3 moving averages and positive recent earnings. I also like that the the company is based in the Netherlands since the strength of the U.S dollar is making investments overseas a more attractive option. I am concerned that the sector of aircraft rentals might be hit if the economy turns south which it very well might do in the coming year.Corporate aircraft leasing just might be an area that will slow down if the economy slows. Any thoughts?
At the outset SDLP looks like an amazing investment opportunity. The stock jumped more than 3% post positive earnings last week and with a more than 16% annual yield alone this stock would seem like a great place to stash one's money. Should the savvy investor be concerned though? Other than what you mentioned about the effect that rig contracts will have on the company, are there other factors influencing this stock? Does it rise and fall along with the price of crude? Doing a bit of research, I found the following information on Investopedia.com that could be a cause for concern:
1. Seadrill has $4.8 billion in total funding requirements over the next two years, assuming there are no revisions in delivery dates.
2. Management also expects earnings to slip in 2015, with second-quarter EBITDA forecast to be $70 million lower than the $711 million earned in the first quarter. This decline is being driven by idle time for the West Taurus, West Eclipse, and West Gemini rigs, as well as the deconsolidation of its recently completed SeaMex joint venture.
It seems there's a very powerful influence between rumor and oil prices. All OPEC has to do is say they might slow production and oil shoots up! Another factor seems to be regional instability. We saw it with Saudi airstrikes on Yemen, but I believe the most powerful factor has been and will continue to be OPEC's decision to slow its oil supply-big question is whether they have any interest in doing that.
Of course there always the laissez faire attitude to make it look as if the Saudis don't have any control over oil production or prices - quoting Saudi Oil Minister, Ali Al-Naimi, early in May "no one can set the price of oil - it's up to Allah." Really??
True that Netflix has been a roller coaster stock, but I think the company has a lot of potential in the Chinese, and European markets. According to the opinion of Blackledge. They expect Netflix to enter Japan, Italy, Spain, and Portugal in the second half of the year, and sees Netflix ending 2015 with 29.8 million international subscribers, or about 11% of broadband Internet subscribers in the addressable markets.
The stock is up over 11% in the past month alone, and I don't think its maxed out yet.
Sounds like a great investment especially considering the 8% plus annual yield. My question is, do you think its a safe investment considering the ever increasing strengthening of the dollar, and the expected Fed's rate hike?
Thanks for this really useful article. I am very interested in following the progress of these small up and coming biopharma companies and your commentary adds a great deal to my knowledge. I was wondering if there is good resource online to learn more about the medical trials and progress of companies like these? After seeing how PBMD popped yesterday, the time to get into these stocks is before they announce their breakthrough results obviously!
