Before I retired in 2011, I saw my accounting department shrink from 7 employees to 2, which was the controller and I, while the business (a hotel) saw increases in revenue while decreasing room rates. Every department had employee cutbacks demanding that the remaining employees redouble their efforts to keep up with work load.
