Our current pricing starts at $209/month with a one time $750 activation fee including full coverage insurance, maintenance, and taxes for 4 days/month of use. The math works if you need a car a few days a week- say you live in the city and just need a car on the weekends to go hiking and shopping, or you work from home and just need to go into the office a couple of days a week. For these folks, it's a lot more convenience and lower cost especially given the headache of parking a car in a city like San Francisco. A garage would cost around $300/month plus the cost of insurance ($100/mo+) and a car payment ($300/mo+) gets you to $700/month or more just to have a car you drive a couple of days a week. If you forget your sunglasses or your umbrella in your car, we'll bring it back to you next time too!

We don't use a 2nd person and a chase car. That would be incredibly expensive. We deliver with one concierge and a bicycle. It's more efficient than Zipcar because we can drive higher utilization off of a smaller fleet, we reduce our parking costs to almost zero, and have virtually no lost damages, fraud issues, or stolen gas- all of which are massive money pits for Zipcar. We also don't do hourly rentals like Zipcar so our bookings tend to be a lot longer (fewer transactions/month).

I address this in the first question of the article. Upshift is an all-inclusive fractional car subscription that delivers our members a Prius or RAV4 hybrid SUV whenever they need a car. With Upshift, we eliminate all friction in either owning or renting a car- you always get a car you are familiar with and it is always clean with a full tank of gas. We also provide full coverage insurance and exceptional customer service. We'll even deliver you an identical replacement car if you have any issues like a fender bender, break-in, or flat tire.

I've used carshare services extensively and got so frustrated with all the friction and bad customer service. That's what prompted me to build Upshift. Carshare cars were dirty, smelled of smoke, out of gas, broken turn signals, bald tires, missing insurance cards, or just not even there when you showed up. It was exhausting never having any certainty and always dreading the experience. Upshift was designed to eliminate all friction so you just have to think about where you want to go and nothing else.
