Trade Wars Are Killing Pandemic Cooperation
Barry Glassman 8/14/2020 2:15:38 AM

Things have definitely gotten messy with Trump expanding the #TradeWar by now going after companies. First #Huawei, then #TikTok and now #WeChat. Where does it end? And what happens if/when China retaliates.

While I agree 3Trump directly caused the US infection rate to be much higher (by claiming it was a hoax, it posed no risk to Americans, etc.) I don't really see how the #tradewar was a factor. Can you elaborate?

How was #Trump wrong about the #tradewar? Our economy is booming while China's is now a mess and half the country is locked down.

Perhaps, but perhaps not. It won't be the first time that #Trump was on the verge of a #tradewar deal.

Looking For The Right Time To Buy Micron
Bill Myers 9/10/2019 12:29:52 AM

Good read. I think a lot of the negative hype surrounding $MU and the #tradewar ware overblown. China makes up a tiny fraction of #Micron's revenue.

Trump’s Trade War Is A High-Stakes Gamble

The #tradewar will turn bloody if China bans all US imports. Think that is farfetched? China has already banned all agriculture. Could Trump ban all Chinese imports in retaliation? That would likely drive prices up and crash the stock market. #Trump is playing with fire.

China To US: Drop Tariffs Or No Trade Deal

I don't see #Trump lifting tariffs either. He loves a good fight and tariffs are clearly a favorite weapon. But I don't think it is a forgone conclusion that we will lose the #tradewar.

Seems to me that sentiment has really turned against the #TradeWar over the past few months. Yet most would agree that there is a trade imbalance and that China takes advantage. Though the war might be tough, if we win and come out on top, won't it be worth it?

The biggest benefit to US in this #tradewar is to stem the forced tech transfers and wake everyone up to what’s going on.

Possibly, but is it likely that the #tradewar had such a devastating impact already?

Hi @[Carol W](user:7533), good to see you here. While I would agree with you as usual, in this case, wouldn't the long term effects of the #tradewar not manifest until after the 2020 election?

Yes, I hadn't thought of it, but it does seem clear to me now that this is the most obvious outcome of the #Trump's #TradeWar

Very Clever, Those Chinese Folks
Dick Kaplan 5/21/2019 12:33:00 PM

While that's true Craig, that's when the tariffs are one-sided. In a #tradewar, China reciprocates with tariffs of it's own. Meaning higher prices for Americans who buy Chinese products (which is almost everything) and for Chinese citizens, they'll buy more of their own products (good for them) and fewer of our products (bad for us).
