Yesterday, Donald Trump met with Israel's multi-decade butcher, Benjamin Netanyahu, in our White House's Oval Office . . . and over lunch. The "love fest" was enough to turn one's stomach.[2] Is Trump's blindness with respect to Israel's atrocities vis-a-vis non-Jews enough to oppose him politically?
It's an individual choice, of course. But Trump has gone too far in terms of keeping the monies and weaponry flowing to Israel; and curtailing free speech on behalf of those who would tell the unvarnished truth about Israel's "crusade" against non-Jews.[3]
Lots of us have long-time Jewish friends, who are just as American as we are. They are not immigrant Jews. Rather, their ancestors came to the United States in the 1800s or before, like mine did.[4]. Some live in countries other than Israel and America, where they are forced to deny their "Jewishness."
This is what Netanyahu, the "Settlers" and rabid Zionists have wrought. Perhaps the worst part of the interview was when Trump and Netanyahu agreed that other countries should be found to take in Palestinians. A bizarre notion: to "sanitize" Palestine against Palestinians.
For the most part, Trump and Netanyahu focused on the threat from Iran, with Trump saying that a "high-level meeting" with the Iranians was scheduled for this Saturday.[5] But a nation-ending attack against Israel may not involve Iran at all.[6]
Anti-Semitism is reaching levels globally that have not been seen since World War II. Netanyahu should be arrested and tried by the International Criminal Court for his many crimes. However, predictably Trump would seek to block such efforts, and permit Israel's butchery to continue—which some may argue is a crime itself.
Ariel Sharon and the Rabins hated Netanyahu. Indeed, the "Lioness" Leah Rabin blamed him for her husband Yitzhak's tragic assassination. She believed that peace was impossible with Netanyahu at the helm of Israel's government; and her views were prescient and prophetic.[7] Is Trump blind to this reality?
