Clever. Americans used to be great retail bargainers until chain stores were developed. The chain stores opted for a lower fixed price because the owner of so many stores couldn't haggle. Over time, Americans became trained to be price-takers instead of negotiators.

I can't find the reference, but years ago I read that the actual payroll report has a very large estimation error (+/-250,000 jobs or so), one that makes it difficult to use on a month-to-month basis.
