If you like 1950’s Godzilla movies, you’re going to love YouTube’s new AI-powered dubbing service, Aloud, which transcribes, translates, and dubs videos. Aloud currently supports English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and YouTube has plans to expand its language offering.

I know this is going to be awesome when the product matures, but right now – in the spirit of my favorite Kung Fu movies – the demo just made me laugh out loud.

In practice, this integration will enable creators to reach a global audience more efficiently, bypassing the need for manual translation and dubbing. For viewers, this means improved accessibility to international content, regardless of language barriers.

In addition to translation and dubbing, YouTube plans to enhance the authenticity of the dubbed content. Future updates aim to make translated audio tracks mimic the creator’s voice, complete with expressions and lip sync, enhancing the viewer experience. When they get this working, the product will be magic! Until then… well, it’s a great start.
