This is an update as to whether the "Shorters" (the big institutional players who have heavily shorted 25 stocks) or the "Squeezers" (small retail speculators who are making an effort to drive the shorted stocks up in price to thwart the shorters) are winning the "game".

My initial article on the subject (see here) explained all things short stock related, namely:

  1. Why Do Speculators 'Short' Stocks?
  2. How Do You Short A Stock?
  3. What Is Short Volume?
  4. What Is Short Interest?
  5. What Is A Short Squeeze?

and identified the 15 stocks that have short sales in excess of 30% of total shares.

My next article (see here) expanded the list to include an additional 10 stocks with short sales in excess of 25% of total shares, and today's article is the latest scorecard of the performance of the 25 stocks in play, as identified in the links above, and the specific stocks having the greatest success (the greatest momentum) in the last week.

  • During the first 10 weeks of our "contest" (from about mid-November, 2021, until the end of January, 2022) the "Squeezers" were still in the formative stage with the "Shorters" being successful in driving down the prices of the 25 stocks by 47%, on average.
  • During the month of February the "Squeezers" caused five (5) of the 25 stocks to advance in excess of 15%.
  • During this first week of March four (4) of the stocks have advanced in excess of 12% as follows:
    1. Arch Resources (ARCH): +29.5%
    2. Workhouse Group (WKHS): +20.4%
    3. Gogo Inc. (GOGO): +15.8%
    4. Arcimoto Inc. (FUV): +12.5%

Of the 4 stocks above, however, only Arch Resources is showing any consistent momentum, having gone up +19.0% the week before as well and it is the only one of the 25 high interest stocks to be up since mid-November having advanced 65.4% since that time.

Conclusion

From the above analysis it is evident that the "Shorters", who are expecting that the 25 stocks will drop in price going forward enabling them to eventually reap major profits as a result, are winning the "game" in dramatic fashion.
